Doctoral researcher in the Academy of Finland Funded project Affective Activism: Sites of Queer and Trans World-Making.
Tainio’s subproject Affective Vulnerability of Trans Activism addresses the ways in which affects inform and inspire activism on a personal level for individual trans, non-binary or gender non-conforming activists, as well as on a wider collective level of political goals, practices and visions for more liveable futures.
Tainio’s background is in academic trans studies as well as different forms of trans activism and community organising in and outside the academia. Tainio wrote his Master’s thesis on the medical gender reassignment process in Finland, and is in his PhD focusing on questions of trans embodiment, vulnerability and affect in the contexts of activism and culture.
