PI of the Academy of Finland funded project Affective Activism: Sites of Queer and Trans World-Making (AQT; 2021–2025; Grant number 341571).

In her subproject Queer Activism in Museums, Tuula Juvonen analyses the ways in which queer and trans activists and scholars challenge the biased and exclusionary presentation of history in Finnish museums. She focuses among other things on queer guides through the museum exhibitions and the reinterpretations of unmarried men’s personal lives provided in the house museums.

Her earlier research projects have focused on emerging lesbian and gay communities, the changing position of homosexuality in Finnish society, and sexualities and genders in flux. Previously she led the Academy of Finland funded project research project on affective inequalities in intimate relationships (2015–2020; Grant number 287983). Juvonen has been awarded for her ongoing collaboration with memory institutions to preserve Finnish LGBTQ histories, and she is a co-founder of the registered association Friends of Queer History.
